Home again, home again...

jiggidy-jig-- as my mother would have said.   Yes, folks, I am back from my very first Con as a professional pornographer.  And it was wonderful!  First and foremost I want to thank all the folks at Mysticon in Roanoke, VA for being such fabulous hosts.  Everyone worked really hard and I truly appreciated their efforts.  I had the honor of being on some wonderful panels with some wonderful artists.  I think I probably learned more this weekend than I have in years of schooling, and for that I am truly grateful.  I also had the opportunity to make some great new friends in the writing/sci-fi/fantasy/erotica realms.  I would like to think that they had as much fun meeting me as I did meeting them.  I also managed to find hundreds of new books I have to read and seemingly thousands of new ideas to explore in my own writing.  I just can't say enough good things about this experience.  Thanks everyone!

Now-- on to my recommendations....

I had the opportunity to meet some fantastic writers this weekend that I think all of you should check out as well.  The first new person I met was an extraordinary media personality, Bethany Halle.  She is the host of a BlogTalkRadio show called The Fire of Fantasy and Darkness.  She's an excellent interviewer and was my first victim at Mysticon. But she made me feel quite comfortable and not like the bumbling idiot I felt I was.  She spoke to me about Hellsong and just let me ramble on and it was wonderful.  You should give her a listen here, despite that horrid second guest (hehehe).

I also had the pleasure of being on several panels with another fantastic writer, Pamela K. Kinney.  Pamela has written several books of regional ghost stories-- which is how I found her.  My husband, Tally, is a ghost hunter, writer and rabid reader.  He had several of her books and passed them on to me.  I had the chance to talk with her a great deal during the Con and she has great insights on hauntings and writing.  She's also moonlights as an erotic paranormal writer, Sapphire Phelan.  Her stories are hot and well written-- highly recommended.

But not everyone I met was feminine.  I met another extraordinary writer named Stephen Zimmer.  He writes both urban epic fantasy (think Jim Butcher) and epic fantasy.  Those are two genres with which I don't have much experience.  However, just after hearing Stephen's descriptions of characters and plots--- I CAN'T WAIT TO TAKE HIS BOOKS TO THE BEACH ON SPRING BREAK!!  His sensibilities are right up my alley as a lover of horror, blood and mayhem.  I can't wait!  Check him out if you get a chance-- you'll be excited too.

Of course I had the chance to see some other authors that I had already met, and I was pleased to get to talk with them again:  Marcia Colette, Allen Wold and Cassandre Dayne.  And as always--- they were both inspirational and awe-inspiring.

I will stop rambling now, as my notebook is staring at me.  Hopefully soon I will be able to announce that I have actually finished my second book.  Of course if I keep blogging and going out to party, I never will.  So... later taters....

'Twas the Night Before Con...

and all through the house.  Not a creature was stirring--- except stupid Lexxx who decided to make these adorable little chocolate roses to adorn her business cards.  Between myself and my BFF, Susan, we may NEVER want to see Hershey's Kisses ever again.  I must have turned at least a billion of those things into little tulle rosebuds.  And I look around  my house and its a disaster area.  Which is unusual for me.  Usually when I'm going out of town, the first thing I do is clean so that I can come home to a nice, clean house.  But between schoolwork and writing, I just haven't had the time to do all I'd like.  And now I'm so tired....

On the upside, I can't WAIT to get the weekend started.  MystiCon is in Roanoke, VA, which is an old childhood stomping ground.  I haven't been back in years and so I can't wait to see it again.  Lots of great memories there and I hope to make more this weekend.  Joining me at the Con will be authors Marcia Colette, Pamela K. Kinney and Tally Johnson among others.  I won't be able to post to Blogger over the weekend because I've been banned from ever owning another laptop computer (a long story for another post), however I plan to post lots of pictures on Facebook and do a lot of tweeting.  So yes-- everyone can share in my "what the hell was i talking about" moments.

Day 2 of Mysti-Madness...

My Tuesday started out nicely with an update on kickass panels, some smutty goodness from a long ignored story and coffee.  For some reason I wasn't thinking about all the stress I've been piling on for so long.  And then tonight it hit me.  The hormone factory has begun production and I won't be right until at least Friday.  And just FYI-- I am up to my eyeballs in hershey kiss roses!!!

An inhuman roar seemed to shake the stone walls, making Neesa scream, putting her hands over her ears.  She peeked out from behind the bed, desperate to see whatever was making that noise.  Her brown eyes went wide with disbelief when she saw him.  Lord Marek seemed to grow in size with the deafening roar.  In a blur of black smoke and shimmer, he leapt at Ioin, his skin bursting open to reveal an enormous black wolf.  She screamed when it bellowed again, landing atop her master and pinning him down with two heavy paws on his shoulders.  Its teeth were bared and she could see the glistening, hungry saliva dripping from the fangs as it growled threateningly at Ioin.  

“Neesa... do something...”  Ioin said calmly, staring into the face of the animal.  She moved slightly and the beast howled, making her drop to her belly again.  He thought he could use the distraction to scramble away, but the beast was cunning and grabbed him by the thigh as he tried to slide from beneath him.  Neesa screamed as she watched the wolf tore into his flesh, blood splattering in every direction and quickly turning the rug beneath them to red almost instantly.  Neesa watched the struggle helplessly, unsure of what was happening.  None of this could be real.  Where had that beast come from?  Would it devour Ioin only to come for her next?  She couldn’t help but think of how she could be free if Lescoux were dead.  Still, he was her master and she couldn’t stand by and watch helplessly as this abomination--- whatever it was-- tore him apart.  

“Help!” she shrieked over the din of growling and grunting of pain.  The grunt turned to screaming as the wolf grabbed Ioin by the shoulder, his teeth sinking in to the bone.  It began jerking its head back and forth, tearing the tendons apart with its teeth. 

“Help me, Neesa!” Ioin wailed, tearing his arm from the wolf’s grasp.  But it would not be deterred and went at him again with renewed vigor.  This time, Ioin was anticipating and grabbed the beast’s muzzle, turning it away from him with all the strength he could muster from the ruins of his wounded arm.  “Please... hurry!” he pleaded.

Neesa looked around for some kind of weapon, anything.  Finding none, she could only shriek again and run for the door.  Perhaps she could find some help.  As she jerked open the door, she saw Kali and Vasilia standing in the corridor, their faces awash with fear and confusion.

“What’s happening?” Kali hissed, grabbing at Neesa’s arm.

“Just run!” she shouted, shoving them down the corridor.  She looked back over her shoulder to see Ioin deliver a kick to the wolf’s flanks, sending it sprawling.  It was enough time for him to get to the door, holding his arm.  “You’ll pay for this, Marek!” he shouted, though the fear on his face was apparent.  

His threat was met with a final deafening roar of triumph that sent them all screaming down the stairs to where their carriage waited below.  

CON- Week!!!

Its Monday, lovelies--- and that would be exactly 4 days until the ole Southern Belle from Hell hits MystiCon 2011.  I'll be participating in panel discussions on erotic fiction, writing female genre characters, social networking and others.  I really hope that some of you can come over and keep me company at the beautiful Holiday Inn, Tanglewood in Roanoke, VA.  I'll have swag and a smart remark for everyone!  It's really going to be a blast and a half!  And as a special gift.. this week I'm going to try my best to give you a blog and a blurb from the WIP each day til Friday.  And then you'll have to check my Facebook for updates and photos from the Con.  So here goes....

His kiss was fast and hard-- taking her completely by surprise.  She found herself giving up to it, opening her mouth to invite him inside.  His tongue slid over hers with a maddeningly slow sensation.  She whined softly against his mouth and pushed her body against him eagerly.  She wanted more.  She wanted to take his breath into her body, giving it new life.  She pulled his lip between her teeth, rolling it gently against them and tasting the flesh.  After a time, he broke their kiss, pushing her gently back against the pillows.  

Sascha was panting, feeling a little embarrassed that she’d gotten so carried away.  Had she angered him once again with her maladroit manner?  She cast a curious gaze in his direction.  “Have I done something wrong, my Lord?” she asked with a nervous quiver.

“Only that you won’t call me by my given name,” he purred, leaning over her again to kiss softly at the crest of her cheekbone.  “Your passion is never wrong.  Merely unexpected.”  She nodded slowly in agreement as he ran his fingertips through the tangled mess of her hair.  They traced her jawline, coming to rest just under her chin.  He used them to tip her mouth upwards to receive him.  Just before making contact, he pulled back just out of her reach.  She whimpered and he chuckled, teasing her.  Over and over they played this cat and mouse game until finally she won, crushing her mouth against his until her lips were swollen and pouting.  “Slowly, love,” he whispered, his breath warm against her ear.  And then his lips were against the hollow just beneath her earlobe.  She purred when his lips took the small bit of flesh between them, nibbling gently.  His fingers roamed down her front to tangle in the strings of her bodice, pulling at them until the heavy brocade fell away, leaving behind the sheer silk chemise below.  She felt her cheeks light up and knew that they had turned bright pink.  She clenched her fists at her sides, wanting so badly to cover herself, but also embarrassed by her modesty.  The thin fabric clung to her body like a second skin, outlining every curve and settling into the V between her thighs.  She shifted uncomfortably in a vain attempt to soothe the burning that radiated from her center.  His thumb brushed against a small bruise just over the curve of her breast.  Sascha winced, trying not to whimper with pain.  

So MystiCon.... who's with me?!

OK.. so my first official Con as an author is coming up at the end of February and I couldn't be more excited.  I got my schedule today and I'm just completely psyched for it.  I know I may sound like a complete and utter dumbass when I actually get on a panel, but at least that's entertaining for others.  Here's what I think--- I'll be needing a whole army of devotees.  So, I'm planning to bring a big bag of swag for those of you that come to bask in the glow of my magnificence.  LOL... did that sound convincing enough?  Yeah... I didn't think so.  But I am bringing the swag and I'd love to see anyone and everyone that comes by.

As for the work in progress--- I'm 50 pages from the end.  Thank heavens!  I think after this is done, I'll take a break and finish some of these short fic ideas that have been simmering in my head.  I just hope that after all this work, someone will actually want to buy the newest book. I would hate to think I wasted all this time.  But since I haven't posted in so long... The rush of coppery bittersweetness rushed into his mouth as his teeth scraped her skin.  He gasped, startled by his error.  He knew that it would take much more of his venom to infect her, but still he had to be cautious.  One taste of her blood would  make him want more.  His tongue flickered across the swollen flesh and allowed himself to gather the tiny pearl of blood that collected in the miniscule dimple at the point of her nipple.  Sascha groaned beneath him and he was sure that she hadn’t even felt the tiny pang.  He brushed her obsidian locks away from her neck and bent down, inhaling her scent where it was strongest, just under her ear.  “God, Sascha...” he growled.  “If only you could feel how much I need you.” His hands, once content to circle lightly over her middle, were beginning to stray to more exotic destinations, alighting on her thigh, just over her knee.  He watched her face for any signs of fear, but her eyes were closed and she had her lower lip poised between her teeth.  Meeting with no resistance, he became bolder, sliding his hand along her thigh and rubbing the inside gently.  He heard her sharp intake of breath, but she didn’t stop him.  With gentle pressure, he pushed her thigh to one side, opening her sex to him.  The untouched flesh with its silken curls prickled at the rush of cool air against it.  She made a soft whimper and he pulled back slightly.  “Relax, little one,” he soothed, his voice barely a whisper.  His hands avoided her sex purposefully, stroking along the edge of her hip and down each thigh.  He smiled, enjoying watching her reactions as his fingertips barely brushed the edge of her pubis.  He leaned down, his lips a whisper against her ear.  “Tell me to stop.”

“No,” she purred, nuzzling against his cheek.  “Don’t stop.”

He smiled again, taking her earlobe between his teeth and nibbling gently, careful this time not to nick the gossamer skin.  His breath against the cuff made her shiver visibly.  Raising his nose to the air, he inhaled deeply, taking in the musky scent of her arousal.  It made him hungry and for a fleeting  moment he was afraid that control would be fleeting.  Her fingertips reached out to him.  He could tell that she wanted to touch him and he allowed her, taking her tiny hand and pressing it to the strong curvature of his muscular chest.  Once there, she was keen to explore, if somewhat timid.  He tried to encourage her with a soft groan, watching her fingertips circle the small circular nipples.  She smiled as if pleased with herself and scraped the smooth edge of her nail across it.  He gasped and it was his turn to shiver.

“Did I do something wrong?” she asked, her eyes suddenly wide with apprehension.

“Not at all,” he reassured her.  “Merely made me shudder with my desire for you.”  He stroked her cheek with a featherlight tough, turning her face away so that he could weave a snaking path of kisses from her temple to the center of her breast.  

Just as he took the nipple into his mouth, sucking it deeply inside, his fingers finally strayed to her center.  Cautious and gentle, he brushed the back of his hand over the silken mound of flesh.  She mewed and made a movement to pull away, but Cianan wouldn’t let her, holding her close with a heavy hand on her hip and the other clamped firmly over her sex.  “Just lie still,” he commanded in a rasp.  Before she could protest, he began to move the heel of his palm in firm strokes.  She gasped, arching her body with an involuntary jerk.  He whispered another reassurance and she calmed.  He kissed her forehead before sitting up and crawling into the space between her thighs.  Cradling her ankle, he pulled each leg to rest on either side of his kneeling form.  From this vantage point he could see everything.  Every breathless sigh would be his to feast upon.
